Types of LED Sphere Screen

The LED Sphere display screens have made it appeared in the market only in recent years. What’s relatively more famous is the LED dome display screen in the Taiwan Pavilion at the World Expo 2010.

The LED Sphere display screens have made it appeared in the market only in recent years. What’s relatively more famous is the LED dome display screen in the Taiwan Pavilion at the World Expo 2010. Three types of LED dome display screens have appeared on the market so far. These kinds of manufacturing technologies of the LED dome display screen have been applied for patents, and some of them even applied for PCT international patents.


1. The watermelon peel LED dome display screen: The earliest dome screens on the market, commonly known as watermelon peel spherical screen, which is composed of PCB like watermelon peel. Its advantages are the intuitive structure, fewer types of PCB, but its fatal disadvantage is that it is north dipole and south dipole (that is, north of 45° north latitude and south of 45° south latitude)cannot play images normally, and the picture utilization will be too low or the image will be seriously deformed. The reason is that the pixel points of all current image sources are arranged in rows and columns, but the pixel points of the north and south poles of the watermelon peel flexible LED display screen are not arranged in rows and columns but are arranged in a circle, so that’s the reason why it’s difficult to display.


2. The triangular dome display screen: a dome screen made of a flat triangular PCB, commonly known as a football screen, which overcomes the shortcomings of the watermelon skin ball screen in which the north and south poles cannot play images, so the picture utilization rate is greatly improved. The disadvantage is that there are many types of PCBs and they are limited by the honeycomb arrangement of the pixels, while the point spacing cannot be too small, and software writing is also very cumbersome.


3. The six-sided panoramic dome: It is a flexible LED display screen composed of a quadrangle PCB that has appeared only recently. It is known as a six-sided panoramic flexible LED display screen. Its manufacturing method is also very simple. Now take the manufacture of a 1.5-meter diameter screen as an example: divide the entire sphere into 6 faces with the same shape and size, and then divide each face into 4 unit boxes with the same shape and size. There will be 24 of 6 faces. Each unit box consists of 16 PCBs with LED lights soldered on the surface, and finally, they are installed into a six-sided panoramic flexible LED display screen.


The six-sided panoramic dome screens have fewer PCB types than football screens. The pixel layout is closer to a normal flat LED display screen, and the minimum dot pitch is similar to the flat LED display screen. Therefore, the image source that can be used to play on a normal flat LED display can be directly played on a six-sided panoramic flexible LED display screen. The effect is much better than the flexible LED display screen composed of watermelon peel PCB and the flexible LED display screen composed of triangular PCB. In terms of physical size, the entire flexible LED display screen is composed of 6 faces with the same shape and size, and each face is composed of 4-unit boxes with the same shape and size. They can be placed in flight cases, and they are very easy to disassemble and for renters to use. In terms of software playback function, it can also use a video source to play on the entire spherical surface like a watermelon peel dome screen, such as a globe. It can also play 6 different video sources or the same video source on 6 faces of the same size (which is up, down, left, right, front, and back). Of course, different video sources can also be played individually or jointly through software. This is particularly important for the flexible LED display screens with a diameter greater than 2 meters because the height of a human is below 2 meters, the effective viewing angle is only about 1/6 of the surface of the ball.
